Did you know that professional bass tournament fishing is becoming as popular a sport as NASCAR racing or PGA golf? The number of sponsors and fans is increasing every year, with spectators following anglers around the lake during tournaments. And with ESPN outdoors hosting and televising B.A.S.S., the largest fishing league in the world, it's no wonder.

When most people think of fishing they think of it as a man's sport. Although over the years there have been a few attempts at women's professional leagues, it wasn't until last year that B.A.S.S., a subsidiary of ESPN, announced the new Women's Bassmaster Tour (WBT) to be sponsored by Triton Boats, Mercury Marine and Toyota, beginning in 2006. Each year there will be a total of five events, located at different lakes throughout the U.S. Competitors will tow their boats across country, spend a minimum of three days practicing and two days qualifying, with the top 6 finishers competing on the final day. the top 12 anglers at the end of the season get to compete in the National Championship being held in early spring the next year.
